This is a bit of a weird one.  I bought the chassis and control panel not working a couple of years ago.  The 425 was originally a 4x12 amp, so stupidly unwieldy.  No wonder someone had already cut it down to a head.

Anyway, I bought it, changed the filter caps, replaced the leaky coupling caps, and it now works a treat.  It's a US voltage model, and comes with a big old Radio Shack step down transformer (screwed to the inside of the cab).

I originally made the cab for a Vibrolux Reverb clone I was making, but after some incurable reverb problems with that amp I dismantled it, rebuilt it as a 5F6-A Bassman, and put it in a head cab.  So when I got the Magnatone, I cut the control panel down, and bunged it in the old cab (hence the unused mounting holes).

The cab is my first attempt at hand-cutting dovetail joints in solid oak.  Needless to say, I won't be doing that again (fret saw, chisel and solid pine is a whole lot easier).  So it's a bit bloody rustic to say the least - but it does the job.  Also, being solid oak, it's got a real authoritative thump to the low end.  It's also very heavy.

The speakers are the Celestion 15 Eight model - nice smooth mids and focused bass.

Ah yes, I also inserted a master volume, which I had to mount in the chassis instead of the control panel - running leads up to the control panel from that part of the circuit would have introduced too much noise.

I originally sold it to a friend.  Now he's emigrating to Jamaica (the lucky bastard) so he's asked me to sell it for him.  He wants what I sold it to him for: £200. Now £150.

NB So that the chassis can be removed without taking the step down transformer out with it, there is a mains junction plug thing (can't remember the proper name) with screw-down clamps connecting the +ve and -ve supply to the lines going to the chassis.  I have screwed this to the inside of the cab behind the stepdown transformer so that it is out of reach.  However, this would not pass a PAT test as a result (it would need housing in separate, earthed, enclosure to pass).  I can fill the terminals with silicone to make it completely safe if the buyer wants me to.

I'm based in Norwich, but travel to Greenwich every fortnight (until Christmas).
