Ran the Nik Huber through the Sportsman last weekend. Initially, kept the SM clean then add OD from Fulltone OCD and Okko Diablo. Then, half way through the set, I dialed the Vol & Mids to about 3 o clock, and adjusted the 'headroom' accordingly... And dropped out ALL the pedals...
Mindblowing, just clipped lovely tones from the Sportsman. I could just gig with this amp and guitar alone. Stunning cleans to wonderful OD, with awesome reverb, in one tight package !
I have the 12" Sportsman and use it for gigs in my rocking trio, but then I'm shooting for the 6V6 breakup it does so well--not the cleans, although I love them, too. Mine has an 8ohm speaker, dropping the power to about 15 watts. Still it screams and fills any room.
I have used the 10" version (w/ 16 ohm speaker) in rehearsal and recorded it. The 10" Sportsman cut through on the recording very well. Very articulate. Even cranking the Les Paul, I could hear each string on the barre chords, and the solos popped out nicely.
The 12", by comparison, was fuller sounding on the recording with bigger, mushier barre chords, thicker solo sounds.
I actually work there at Carr, so if anyone has any questions, I might be able to help.
