Favourite alt tuning?

I'm currently really liking Drop D tuning - used in songs like these. Anyone suggest any more?

I keep meaning to have a serious try at bass with CGDA. The scales and positions make sense, because its in 5ths so although it would be different, also logical. However there would be a lot of position shifting. BUT it would simply mirror Cello positions, and there is a wealth of information/expertise out there. (Some double bass players use CGDA too). How's the cello playing going, are you up to thumb position yet?

I've made a start on other positions. I m mostly in tune most of the time in first position, which is a great relief for all concerned. So, on balance, it doesn't seem to be going badly, ta.

forgive this ramble guys -
now are u asking ‘Favourite alternate tuning’ or ‘Favourite alternative tuning’,
I ask because across the pond they use ‘alternate’ which would mead e.g. CDCDCD.
Just one of those Americanisms that I’ve had a mental ‘stutter’ over, quite annoying.
In fact there a tuition book called ‘Complete Alternate Tunings Guitar’ by Mark Hanson

Don’t know about electric guitar tuning but I only play in tunings - on acoustics.
I quite like ‘C’ derivative tunings - CGCGCE - hey thats (almost) an ‘ALTERNATE’ tuning.
For those who don’t know ‘standard’ tuning is derived from Lute tuning and is to facilitate playing in ALL the musical Keys - thats what ‘Classical’ music does best - states a simple melodic motive and repeat it in a different key with different instrumentation or variant thereof, thats it.
More traditional musics instruments tend to be ‘in tunings’ take the traditional harp in Ireland Scotland and Wales all had a verity of tunings for different musical (moods) forms.

CFCCGD - the two middle strings are in unison. John Martyn's favourite - some really simple shapes sound great.

I used to play in DADDAE in Minnaars. Everso occasionally DADGAE.

hmm don't know what ya mean Moe but dadgad folk robots pretty much sums it up -
theres 4 cartoons that satire the types of hype around this 1 tuning.


when I gigged, the amount of folk that would ask me if I was tuned to THAT tuning , in fact some said I must have been - it's like thats the only alternative interval system.
oh, was'nt Davy Graham's dad scottish ?.

My cousin used to show me these folky tunings. When I tried them I just sounded like Sonic Youth.
