What's Hot

Hi chaps,

is there an easy way to eliminate fret buzz on an acoustic? it's simple on most electrics but the acoustic seems be a tech job.

It's fret buzz that gives acoustics that lovely acousticky sound.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

have you identified where the buzz is coming from?

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

heh, I tried one of them handmade, high end Yamaha acoustics once that had a loose brace. Sounded like a seriously fucked off wasp inside.

If the action has been dropped too much by shaving the bridge saddle then a new saddle is the only real answer. BUT check the truss rod adjustment and also look to see if the body has 'bellied up'. It might be a loose brace allowing the top to flex and cause the bridge section of the top to droop down.

An eye along the face of the body (with a straight edge layed on too) will give you an idea. Get it too a good luthier for a proper appraisal.

You can swap saddles and/or carefully adjust the truss rod without visiting a tech. Not a huge difference from an electric.

Has it got worse over winter?

It's a new guitar, so not really got any worse, but it's always been like this.. it's not really bad, just annoying..

are there any speciifc frets/area that buzz more than others ?  -  is it a 'fret buzz'  type buzz, or could it be from elsewhere ?

What did you buy it for then!?

I think you should get it looked at because you're gonna end up going down a rabbit hole here. Might need a simple adjustment or a fret level, depends on how annoying it is to you. Tech should ask you about your playing style, if he doesn't - walk away.

It was a Christmas present so I didn't get to play it before it was bought.  I'll probably pop it back to the store to be checked out.
