Days where you just sound rubbish?

What's Hot
Been playing a fair bit today (day off) and got the volume up to nearly... Er... 0.5. The Bandit is bloomin loud...

Anyway, as volume goes up, the eq needs changing so I fiddled... And fiddled... And fiddled... And it always sounded either harsh or lacking definition. Hmm.

Then, while playing, I kept pushing the f string too hard and it really ruins power chords or octaves.

And that's twice as bad when the tone is a bit harsh!

Any ideas as to why a crappy player can have days of even crappier playing?!

A long walk seems to cure bad tone days, bad hi-fi days, even (moderate) low mood days.

    Days?! Months mate, years!

I just unplug and work on technique.

    Then buy a new pedal.
    All practice and no theory

  • Like many things it's just a "bad day at the office" , factor in that I'm also a human being, means on occasion successfully turning my amp on is usually as good as it gets.... #-o

It's only days with a 'y' at the end with me, but a new guitar definitely helps
    for a day or two

  • At least I'm not alone.

It's increased my GAS for a blackstar ht metal. I've never tried one before, but it sounds epic.

I even found a recording of someone using it into a bandit, and it does sound pretty awesome!

    But I can't spend. Yet...

Gimme a month or so, and I suspect it'll be NPD. I didn't realise it existed, I thought it was just the distx, but the ht metal has a crunch and lead channel. Epic wins!

I have to say my HT Dual pedal is great like. Really good useable noises to be had. Worth the outlay. The Martin Plexi sounded class in the house but it'll get its throttle tonight. Which is nice. Best £8 of the week. ;)

Isn't GAS the automatic answer to when you have a rubbish-sound-day?
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)

Yeah... I don't really need any more persuasion ;)

I think a ht metal is well in the pipeline. I've tried the dual, and while it had the gain, it didn't have much tightness. The metal seems to be tight, but still quite compressed. Which I like - the Bandit has quite an open drive sound, so it'll be a nice change.

How did we 'do' GAS so effectively before the interweb? Did we? I can't remember that far back.

It took longer, but the principle was the same: "I think I sound shite therefore the answer is any or all of another instrument/FX device/amplifier". You read your copy of Guitarist for product reviews talked about the gear with other musos in your drinking hole and hung out in the local music shop of a Saturday morning trying not to play Smoke or Stairway on whatever kit you were "evaluating"
