Steaming out a dent/dink - advice needed please :)

Unfortunately the headstock on my rw tele neck has taken a bit of a dent during transit, despite (what I thought was) a decent amount of bubble wrap and some extra card at the end. I won't have the neck back in my possession for a couple of days, so only have the one picture to go on

Where do I even start? I own both a tea towel and a soldering iron if that gets me halfway there :D

Wet the tea towel and wring it out, place over denty wood, then apply the hot soldering iron to the damp towel, checking frequently that the towel does not dry out and the dent is popping out.

I had to do the same task on my old EBMM Petrucci after a fucking silly cockwomble who was playing my guitar knocked into another guitarist on stage.

yeah, that will reduce quite well.

but it does look like you have a small amount of torn wood fibre that may not recover fully.  steam it to get your self 95% there but if it needs more i would sand the neck a bit to get some rosewood dust, mix it with a small amount of epoxy and put a drop of it on the remaining damage.  once that is sanded back you wont see it

you may even get away with just filling it with dark wax
