One day I'm going to make a guitar out of butter to experience just how well it actually plays.

Neal Casal's Circles around the Sun. Very trippy and jammy. Lovely.

"Save Me" is the song I'm listening to right now.
It's an interesting, anthemic, and moody song they did.

It kinda has it all. Led Zeppelin influence really with the organ sounds and the riff but it's also haunting and moody, heavy and just down-right awesome. One of the best things they did across their 3 albums. No cliches - just awesome.

Whilst not typically a fan of meandering guitar noodles occasionally they say something...

Khruangnin, "A Calf Born In Winter"

  • Queen Live at the Rainbow 1974 DVD

Superb musicianship, and didn't they make it look so easy !
Father Christmas brought me a copy of that too, really enjoyed it.
It's a bit rawer, bit more "seat of the pants" than the Queen we are used to from the later years, but still corking stuff.

This morning's commute was a game of two halves. First off was finishing off (from yesterday's drive home)
    Clutching At Straws
    - Marillion
    ..
which I had never heard before.
I was always firmly on the Hogarth side of the Fish v Hogarth argument, but this album is really strong, really enjoyed it. After that, I started on Megadeth's new one, the imaginatively titled Dystopia. Not a fan of them, really, but I was intrigued that the involvement of the drummer from Lamb of God might Metal up the sound a bit...which it has. Definitely a more 'metal' album than recent efforts.
Nothing revolutionary or original, but a good solid album and much more like what I imagine Megadeth sound in my head than they ever have done on record before...for what it is worth!

January's a great month for wallowing in melancholia, so I've had a lot of Jason Molina on endless repeat (got to listen to it over and over to really dig the despair and fultility)

  • I've decided I need to start listening to new music.
    Seriously.
Today tried "The Pretty Reckless" who I think are really great!
Godsmack's song "1000hp" is also good.

I quite like them too. They've elevated rock cliché to the point where self-parody almost becomes genius - 'Just Tonight' from the first album is about the best example of that, there's not a note or a bit of arrangement you can't see coming half a mile away but it's still great.

She's really pretty young for someone with such a clear sense of how to manipulate the world of rock music, too. I'm not a huge fan of the teenage-hooker look though, before you think that's why I like them ;).
