Mojo Lap Steel pickup, photos for anyone interested....

@earwighoney asked if much routing was required to fit one of these pickups......depends on what is already there, but about 3mm of clearance is needed for the four top plate screws and the polepieces which protrude through the bottom plate.....

I had to pop the neck off my Tele Coodercaster today, and had to remove the pickup top plate as the strings go throught the pickup.....

Top plate removed, note the pickup magnets are at each end of the pickup, the top and bottom plate are therefore magnetised and the magnetic field surrounds the strings...

The only difference between this one and the Strat specific one is the shape of the baseplate, which in the case of the Strat, mimics the shape of the scratchplate outline, the joy of which means you could return your Strat to normal with no evidence showing of the Lap pickup removal, you do have to seriously mod the Strat scratchplate though...

    Brilliant - cool to see all that - thanks. I love the sound of them and keep looking at the Waterslide ones but home brew is more likely :)

  • Hello @paulnb57 ;

    Thanks for the info about routing and the pictures of the pickup without the top plate.  Really fascinating piece of design!
