Kickass Bass

I played an open mic session on New Year's day and one of the guys there brought this, his home-made 'Kickass Bass'.
Uber-cool!
20" Premier kick drum with a Dean bass neck attached. It's totally acoustic and sounds really good (if a little quiet) and I can't help but think it would be easy to electrify it.
A few mates already want me to make them one...

  • Isn't he missing a trick there?

Put a second skin on the back and a kick pedal and you'd have a one man rythm section.

Yeah, that's part of my plan too. Plus lights round the inside of the rim.

I think he's just invented the Bassjo.

So the rear skin / kick pedal idea- if you close the back up then even less sound would get out so it would need sound holes either in the shell or the front skin. And the drum beat might cause vibration problems for the rest of the instrument?
I still think that lights round the inside would look cool, and a contact piezo or internally mounted pickup would make it far more versatile.
