Get yourself to Coda or Peach, explain the situation and buy your favourite out of whatever till they bring you :)

I have been given permission by Mrs Flagg to spend £2,500 on a new guitar. Lucky me!

I'm thinking Strat, maybe Custom Shop
If that's what you are thinking, stick to it. Then spend a couple of weeks going round trying some and buy the one you fall in love with.

Play a few wild cards en route, but a custom shop is a good shout.

You've got a handlful of great guitars, but all very sensible, get something a but left field, a Duesenberg or a Nova etc etc?

In that budget range I'd get a Jeff Senn Strat. Depends a bit if you have to import/taxes etc.

I'd buy the case and case candy from the new Gary Moore Strat and save up for actual guitar later  :)

I am a bit of a traditionalist, agreed.

Worth the trip, probably best to give them a call in advance so they can line some stuff up for you.

If you want a vintage style Strat, CS Fender is definitely the way to go.

If you want something Strat-like but with more modern features, Anderson make my favourite 'posh' Strats.

How about a smaller OM bodied high-end acoustic?
Man, I'd love a Martin again.

I'd be looking at hollow-body.  335?  PRS HB2? Collings?  Maybe even Gretsch.
Agreed - I'd looking at White Falcons or 330's or maybe a semi so a 335 63 Reissue.

Maybe even a Ric? You are a massive Jam fan?
Yes I am, had a couple of RIC 330s over the years and while I love how they sound when Weller was playing with The Jam they never sounded like that for me. Never really had the ability to play at the kind of volume The Jam did since the early days of the bands I was in.

How about waiting til Birmingham guitar show and making a weekend of it?

Or is your gas fuelled cash burning a massive hole in your pocket?

If you want to go "left field" get a Trussart, not a boring Duesenberg!

Lol - that's fair enough. How about getting @guitars4you over in his van for a private demo ;)

Custom Shop Fender Jazzmaster, maybe having to stretch the budget a tiny bit.

I'd get something old that says Fender on it.
