I am looking for a delay pedal that I can do some U2 cover style delays with and would like the strymon but not the timeline

Any ideas?

Timefactor is much better for the dual delay thing that's in all the big U2 stuff.

  • My aim with a delay is to not sound like U2 as much as possible.

Agree that the Eventide dual delays are brilliant - and bear in mind that the H9 has them in - a used H9 core and just one or 2 algorithms would give you an extremely flexible, small dual delay engine.
    Red ones are better.

I realise the OP doesn't want a Timeline, so apologies for the mention, but just a quick clip for those who think the Timeline doesn't do U2 well...

Having watched quite a lot of delay demoes on YouTube what pisses me off more often than not is them going ' and it can get that U2 sound,' and then they go dink a dink a dink dink for 5 minutes. I think it's annoys me because it's just such a f*****g cliched thing to do on a demo more than my lack of interest in U2. So, according to YouTube every delay pedal ever made is perfect for bloody U2 style shenanigans, it doesn't matter which one you buy.

That's a great demo and it's rare to find one getting the dual rhythm right. But the Timefactor is way easier to set up to achieve it, and sounds better when you get there :P

Don't get me wrong, he's an iconic guitarist, just not a U2 fan. Whoever mentioned the DIG, though, is bang on, perfect for layering delays and the "golden ratio" and all that.

  • Ive a Boss DD20, cheap as, and covers U2 pretty much bang on. 4 memory patches (or 5 if you count manual setting), which I viewed as a positive, but probably could do with a few more.

The Edge's best delay tones were circa 182/3 IMO, those shorter delays like on the Red Rocks version of '11 O Clock Tick Tock' and the live version of 'Fire' from Werchter as examples.

I presume these were pre-digital and may have been the Memory Man?
