Till I think it looks right
Probably will be like 10 coats or so though... But then you sand it back a bit sometimes so its not as much as it sounds.. If I wanted to try and get it ultra shiny would probably be like 20 coats or use a grain filler... And even then, oil wont ever quite give you that ultra mirror finish, but then I like that, which is why I use it.. Feels more like wood, as I think it should

If you can see the wood, it should look like wood.
That's a new one.. Majestic .... Could be the model name maybe?
Thank you

Heres the latest oiling pics... Getting more shiny... Different woods take oil differently... Depending on the openness of the grain... Never used Korina before but it seems to be taking it really well.. This is just coat no 3 and its looking pretty shiny actually (more than I thought it would at this stage). So I may only do another two coats or so. We will see
I will then leave it to really dry solid for a few days and then I can buff it and finish

Hello..
Finally got back to this build today after doing some other stuff the last few weeks...
And I have to admit, I spotted some tiny tiny scratches on the top so today I took that back and started again.. It is annoying as it doesn't usually happen but id rather go back and get it right... No big deal I was only a couple of coats in anyway.
So heres the top
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2183_zpsu1ge9nvb.jpg
The back is looking good though.. And this is only three coats. I may even stop at this depending on how it looks tomorrow. Then I just have to put a couple more on the front and I can get on with finishing this baby.

The headstock is still a bit bumpy from the grain so I didn't do that today.. Hopefully this last layer will be enough to make it nice and flat and I will do it tomorrow.

Hello all...
Lots to get through today
First lets start off with the current weight which is 6.5lbs.. Not too bad... It wont be a light guitar but wont be too heavy either I think.
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2183_zpseopamkni.jpg
Then on to the decal.. First I cut it to rough shape
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2186_zpsheidp1wt.jpg
Then these are my tools.
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2188_zpsxdaxghgy.jpg
I use this micro set solution which makes it slightly softer and helps it set better
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2189_zpslfysfwsz.jpg
Just apply some on the area with a cotton bud
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2190_zps86ug6mpv.jpg
Then the decal goes in some warm water.. Must be warm, not cold or too hot.. Goes in for about 30 seconds
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2191_zpspg1zrbkm.jpg
Then you carefully take it out and place it in position.. Then you just slide a small amount off, and gently (always gently with this) put your finger on the top of the bit that's now on the guitar and grab the other end of the paper and pull that off leaving the decal in place.
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2192_zpsnnvpovkg.jpg
Ta da
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2193_zps5lrdjfpi.jpg
Then what I do is use another dry bud and roll it on the decal (hardly any pressure) and make sure its flat
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2196_zpssxgkmmge.jpg
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2200_zpsvimx1aq0.jpg
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2205_zpstztgyn4m.jpg
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2206_zpslidtmvtn.jpg
Then because I am doing an oil finish. I want to first cover in in a clear coat or the oil will dissolve the decal as its so thin
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2207_zps3hgvhbhj.jpg
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2208_zpsegekmou2.jpg
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2210_zpsoasd0kv9.jpg
Then it gets its first layer of oil.. Once this is on and dry there wont be any further issues

So the next thing today is a small video I made.. You know that thing about thinning out tru oil with some white spirits.. Did that today and it really works a treat.. Goes on much smoother and dries quicker cos of the spirits...
As it says.. Took about 30 mins to dry.. Wasn't quite fully dry but enough.
NICE

Well im pretty much done with the oiling.. Maybe one more coat tomorrow and then I will leave it a few days to set nice and hard then some buffing, then I can put it all together
What I am going for is a shiny enough finish that it sparkles in certain light YET thin enough that you can still see and feel the grain.
So you can see that its shiny in the light, yet look towards the back end and you can still see the grain
http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r588/Rabs2010/2017 work/DSC_2183_zps05xlvj5n.jpg
And you can see it quite well in these pictures

Thank you sir
Taken longer than id like but you know how life is, other stuff gets in the way sometimes... But I cant wait to get the hardware on this.. Should really be something else.. And of course we will all get to find out if having the grain going the other way will actually make any difference or not...
