I mean, I can't fault his left hand, but why does he hold a plectrum like somebody in their first guitar lesson?

Yeah Brian, how did you managed to write and record all those classic rockabilly hits and be a hero to thousands with such poor plectrum grip??

Just had a look around Youtube for a few Setzer gems.

That boy certainly can play can't he?

I can't believe that guitar is 76 years old, it looks brand new.

What about Eddie Van Halen, he has no right to play anything holding it like that.

I haven't watched it yet but he does that thing where he rolls his plectrum around his hand to go between picking and finger picking. It's like a slight of hand magic trick and, presumably, explains why he might have an odd looking grip.

I do the same lightening fast 'rolling pick magic trick' - nothing I specifically went out to learn, but just something I do instinctively that I don't even think about it.  Interestingly, someone noticed it on one of my youtube channel vids (demo of the Vox AC4TV I think).

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I can also do the switch, although I do it differently and sort of hold it loosely between my middle and ring finger. I use that when playing A Martyr For My Love For You.

It was all popular music at the time so the crossover is easy to spot.

Absolutely - I was only joshing really, thinking about some of the anti-jazz sentiment expressed on here recently. Setzer is terrific in my book, and who couldn't like that clip of John Pizzarelli on 7-string. :)

Yep, random chords with ill fitting lead lines and singing a tune to a clearly different song, it's close enough for Jazz to me.  :)

    It's like sprouts on a cheesecake...just wrong.
