Loren Connors

Really been enjoying listening to his classic Airs album, would be interested in other recommendations, I have listened to Bill Frissell before and really enjoyed his work with Brian eno. Also Love Ted Greene's tone and fingerpicking although obviously less left field than  Loren Connors etc.

I really like Portrait of a Soul, he has so many albums it's difficult to keep track of things!  One of my all time favourite guitarists.  Didn't expect to see his name mentioned on this forum!

  • He is very prolific isn't he, Portrait of a Soul is really special. Rare to find such patient melodic players.

Agree.  I really like the early albums he made with Kathy Bloom, different but lovely nonetheless.  The Rothko album is another good one as well, as is 'As Roses Bow'.  I totally forgot, 'The Departing of a Dream' albums are really beautiful as well.

I saw him play a few years ago at the Cafe Oto and it was incredible to see him play, even though he is very ill with Parkinsons.

Lorren Connors with John Fahey are two American guitarists who to my ears brought a lot of majesty to stripped back guitar playing.

Interesting that you mention John Fahey, has William Tyler popped up on your radar? he seems to be in that Robbie Basho/Fahey American Primitive tradition with both acoustic and electric work.
