Recording guitar

What's Hot
When recording guitar to my PC into reaper,  its a bit of a pain to mic my cab up, and the guitar sounds pretty limp through my passive DI into my AI.

Any tips on getting a good guitar sound for recording?
Cheaper the better.

Thanks.

  • What kind of sound?  There are plenty of cheap or free plugins for guitar that sound decent.

LePou plugins were a good place to start a while ago, I'm not sure what else is about now.

Im looking for some sort of amp simulator i guess.
i want some very punchy clean sounds, but something that will get me scuzzy dirttiness aswell, as i use quite a mixture of guitar tones.

Ive seen Amplitube being mentioned on here quite a lot. Any good?

Why's it such a pain to mic up a cab? It's certainly quicker than trying to dial in a sound on most amp sims.

I use a Joyo American Sound to record into Reaper via my AI. Simple clean amp sound that takes pedals. ...and cheap...

+1 if you want a hardware solution.
    It's not a competition.
