  • I'm using all the G-Force soft synths (Minimonsta, Oddity 2, ImpOSCar 2, Vintage String Machine and M Tron Pro), Psychic Modulation Phonec 2 (love this one!) and Uhe's Tyrell. As you can probably tell, I'm more a fan of vintage soinding synths.
    My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

    Omnisphere is amazing, as complex or as easy as you want it to be, I'd also recommend Kontakt and a raft of Romplers. Kontakt has such a huge range of quality sounds available that the sky is the limit tbh

  • Phonec is brilliant as it's so direct. I'm still on the old version but will upgrade to v2 in the next couple of weeks. U-He are excellent. The Arturia synths do sound good but the preset system annoys me and they did have a few crashes when I had V-Collection 4. The Togu Audio Line synths are superb as well. My favourite is SQ8L, still the best Ensoniq soft synth out there. Absolutely nails the sound of my old ESQ-1.

    It depends what you want - NI's Massive is a great synth as is Omnisphere. NI's Komplete suite will probably give you everything you would ever need.

    Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

    My main go to stuff is as follows:

    Omnisphere 2 - just brilliant, in every respect. Realtively accessible in terms of ease of use too, which is amazing given the depth of ability it has, and variety. It can do almost anything and having had it over a year I am nowhere near getting bored with it. Essential IMO. It is a bit CPU heavy for some stuff though.

    NI Komplete Ultimate: I have version 9, and I'd say its pretty amazing really. I use it for just about everything. If there was one thing I'd say get over anything else, it would be this, as it has every base covered. Some awesome effects come with it as well.

    Guitar rig - my main guitar & bass software. I've got a POD HD too, but I think GR edges it.

    Alchemy on the ipad - I bought the full package years ago and it still sounds the business. Shame it now only ships with Logic X. Sounds fantastic.

    Frontier D16 Limiter - its free and ace. I think I use it on every master. Easy and effective

    Breverb - my favourite reverb

    z3ta+2 synth

    @spark240 , to make reccomendations easier, what kind of sounds and music do you like? Which of the Studio one synths do you most like?

    and also, what's the budget?

    about 350 would get you a 2nd hand copy of Komplete Ultimate, which should cover every synth base you'd need. Especially once you start to get into Reaktor and its user community.

    U-HE Diva is pretty fantastic but all of the ones listed so far are great.
    Download some demos and see what you like:

    @Luminous ;

    Thanks for all the tips folks...I guess I like synths with plenty of decent presets, I like arpeggio stuff which I use to start idea off, not too fussed about drums or Pianos, I like the Mai Tai in S1.

    I was hoping to stay under £200 at the moment, and maybe buy add ons later.

    I checked out demos for UVI Falcon ( like) Signal by Output( like) the Komplete stuff is good but I think if I get the entry level then I would want more stuff quickly?

    Omnisphere looks great but maybe a bit too much for my needs?

    I'd almost guarantee that is some chancer selling cracked copies of plugins.
    It used to be all over eBay- not sure if it still is.

    No. KVR.

    Follow the same rules there as you would with buying gear on here (use Paypal, don't gift it to strangers etc etc). Bought and sold plenty of gear on there and found it very good indeed. Our shitty currency at the minute does make the bargains harder to find though.

    I got Komplete on ebay without issue, but as HFD says, KVR is very good. Great resource/place for all things tech gear

    I emailed him to see and received this reply;

    Hi,
    Ok so for that price, this will be a full Omnisphere copy not original, with the 55gigs library,
    If interested, i can either send it online even before payment to give you some assurances.
    Thanks
    Steve

    shysterville for sure. NO way that is a genuine copy - you could sell it for a lot more.

    I paid 275 for the original, peace of mind, all above board, guaranteed support and updates. When it comes to music software, always get originals. aside from the morals of getting cracked copies, they can also be no end of trouble in terms of bugs and reliability.
