That one guitar you reach for

I'm sure we all have one, mine is my Classic Vibe Tele, just realised tonight while struggling on a riff on my Les Paul , just couldn't get it to feel right. Pick up the tele and there it is.

So the question is what what do you reach for when you need that inspiration?

I've been reaching out to my fender classic 60s stratocaster a lot, and to think just a couple of weeks ago I had it for sale. Beats a lot of custom shops. However the one guitar, I really love playing at the moment is my fender masterbuilt 68 thinline telecaster.

My old Squier custom II telecaster is never far away, such a good playing/sounding guitar.

Been really enjoying my keefcaster (as I call) it of late which is a bit unlike me as I'm more a Gibson player. When it's a Gibson it's usually my 335 or 345.

    Cheers

  • My Faith Mercury.
It lives on the wall above the sofa & is always my first choice when writing or practicing.

If I want to play electric my SG Jr always sounds like me.

This Palir, it's light, it's already "dinged" and easy to play.

I'm not sure there's any inspiration involved, it's just whichever one has the most accessible case amongst all the mountains of clutter in my flat...

Recently it's been my Ancho Poblano Strat.  It has a huge neck so whenever I pick up another guitar now the neck feels like a twig.

Really cool guitars, in my experience, you can't find them easily anymore.

My Gretsch Electromatic Pro-Jet. Usually because it's on a stand in the workshop.

I keep a guitar on a stand behind my sofa to facilitate ease of noodling - either my Busker Delta resonator, or a Taylor GS Mini.

That said, the guitar I pick up most often is my Strat - and that's probably the litmus test for any guitar. If you can't resist playing it, it obviously has something going for it.

Classic 60s Lacquer Jaguar for the past 6 months. Partly because it's the best quality (i.e. most expensive) electric I own, but mainly because it looks, feels and sounds more unique than the others. I have a £200 Loar acoustic that sits on a stand by the sofa that gets played an order of magnitude more often than my Taylor.

Probably my Schecter PT by the slimmest of margins - it just covers so much ground.
But I recently sold any guitars that didn't pass the reach for test so the remaining few get a lot of play.
