Holy crap, a real live Kubicki! :scream: I've followed your bass-collecting activities over the years, but I'd no idea you'd had one of these! @ I'd love to try Hamming it up with one...

@wrinkleygit Stumpy is gorgeous, what is he?

I think we need a "post your reliced bench" thread. I'd make a start, but I think mine are covered in snow still, so I probably can't get current photos today...

  • Stumpy is an SEI  by Martin Peterson. I went thro' the catalogue of basses by warwick, overwater, m'man & countless others, it has become my Holy Grail of basses, since buying it I have never wanted to own anything else.

@Bridgehouse So you'll be onboard? Great! I'll take a look at my stock of benches when I'm out of my jimjams. It's sunny outside, but –3°C....

@wrinkleygit Ah, I remember drooling over a SEI in a Guitarist mag review about two decades ago. Well done! I don't think it was a headless, mind...

Very nice quality - I bought just the wooden slats, as I could get all the other bits myself. I sealed them with Ronseal Yacht Varnish, and used dark green smooth-finish Hammerite for the ends.

The results will no doubt be seen when I get another new bass :).

    Unfortunately, no.
It was a very long time ago.
Also I remember the neck being very chunky.
    Great basses though.

Not exactly the most exotic of basses but here's my modest selection. Left to right. Fender aerodyne jazz. Haley benton. Bass collection jazz. Harley benton jazz.

The bass collection is astounding. It's my number one.

I've heard good things about the Bass Collection basses - not tried one tho. Maybe I should. No, actually I definitely shouldn't ;)

Argh!! No idea how to get it working. Normally works... may be i need to do it from my pc.

Anyways.. yes..   mine is the one with the babicz bridge so it's their higher end one, but it's the best sounding bass I've ever played and the neck is lovely. Was only 250 quid second hand so not exactly breaking the bank.

The headstock decal is awful though.

    It was amazing.

In an ideal world I would have kept it, but I ran out of talent.

Even the nut slots and the break angles were designed so regular strings could be used or piccolo without changing the nut. I used to swap between piccolo and La Bella White Nylons.

In the end I was too paranoid about taking it out to play. Usually I don't really care about dings on working instruments, but my brain just couldn't stretch to treating a £5000 instrument that way.

5 chuffing grand!! didn't know they were that much...gasp.

Mind you, I've got an expensive PRS, and I knocked it over the other day, dinged the binding. I could have let it really upset me , but my view is, an instrument should get played, and should be used, the dings, dents, scratches are just par for the course. I won't be selling any of my "good" gear, so , who cares?

My strat fell off its wall hanger recently too, got about a one inch chunk knocked out of it. Having said all that, if it was my PRS, I would have been a bit more upset, but it is a whole lot prettier....!

Old house, thick plaster, botch job, = dodgy wall hangers.....should ahve used longer screws. Thing is, I need about 6 inch screws!

Ran out of talent! Lol, I know exactly what you mean. I think, more than the price, that would put me off getting one. I am just not good enough to have one of those, much as i fancy one. I'll stick with my Ibanez for now, and maybe one day I will stretch to a Stingray.

Mine was the slightly cheaper version with a standard bridge!

Still had the 4 d-tuners on the headstock.

The full fat one has a custom bridge with more d-tuning levers that can be applied to pairs of strings. That adds another £1500!!!

the bridges are machined to order.
