Did you guys set it spanky clean or wind up the growl a bit - maybe I should persevere!

I found mine sounded quite fendery with the growl control all the way counter clockwise. Very, very good amps and I might PM you with a trade option as I miss mine as well!

If you keep the growl all the way down and cut a bit of mid it's quite Fendery. 

The Combo has a vintage 30 in it so perhaps try a different speaker.
