The refurb of my Sheraton was going well - everything came off, the pots fit through the f-holes, the tuners fit - but the bridge post holes are 72mm spaced, not 74mm.  This was supposed to have stopped in the 90s but clearly didn't.  The tailpiece is fine though.

I am determined to get a decent bridge on it so, options are:

  1. Drill out the original holes with a slightly wider drill bit ( they need to be deeper come what may ) and make good with something - matchsticks, No More Nails, whatever - to ensure a really tight fit.
  2. Fill the existing holes with dowel and redrill to correct spacing.
Any other thoughts?  I don't have a fancy post drill - is that what you use? - so it will have to be done by hand unless my local friendly luthier could do it for me.
