'Twas 160 quidlets my local friendly Cash Converter.  I almost pulled the trigger, does that seem too good to be true?

Not really. Good price each for that sort of shop but 2/3 of the new price is fair enough.

I still feel the need to scratch a small wattage itch, if it's there tomorrow I'll give it a went.

    Bought it.

    I like it!

A lot louder than I thought it would be and loads of bass through my combo's 3x10 cab.  I can take it back if I want, but I think this may have to stay...I mean...look at it's cute ickle face.

  • That's a good deal! I've got the combo. I've played it through a 2 x 12 cab and it sounded epic.

Have to de-gas to afford a suitable cab now.  At least it's small enough to hide from Mrs Shady until I sell my combo.

    Yay...

Degassed and found a new Hayden 1x12 Mofo cab for £120 in my friendly local guitar emporium.  New home rig that breaks neither back nor wallet.

Had a good two hours of bonding time with it all last night and I'm really enjoying the sound and portability of this set up.

Having had open back 50+ watt combos for bloody ages there are obviously some very marked differences, in particular the extra punch from the closed back 12" cab in comparison to the half open 3x10" I did have is huge.  The flavour of pick up choice has a massive impact on the amp - much much more so than any amp I've played through before and I'm really enjoying that, especially the varying amounts of compression when you dig in hard with PAF type humbuckers.

It takes dirt pedals very well and bloody loves the fuzz, not so sure with the higher gain settings on the Seymour Duncan Power grid with more powerful darker voiced humbuckers that my last amp took well, but nowt that bothers me immensely.  May well look at other options for that, possibly experiment  with a 5751 in V1 and see what happens...or mebbe swap the pedal out for summat else...dunno.

    Me likey innit.

Happy as Glenn Quagmire when he discovered internet porn.

  • Looks cool! Been debating selling my Jet City for either the 7 or 15 watters. Only thing that worries me is the clean, I love the jet city for that.

It does cleans way up into the 'too much volume for the house' but it very much depends on the guitar and cab used. Paired with an efficient 2x12 (maybe even one open back 1x12 linked up with a closed back 1x12 mini stack of awesomeness) and not too hot 'buckers there's no reason to doubt the clean.

    Try before you buy man.

Just quick update on this, (let's face it...none of my family are interested in this geeky guitar stuff and I have to tell somebody) I lobbed a JJ 5751 into V1 last night, resulting in an amp sounds much better with punchier pickups and angrier distortion smashing it in the face.  Kind of more relaxed, less mushy and smoother if that makes sense with a...er... 'rounder' clean sound I suppose is the only way I can put it.  I tried the same experiment with a Valvestate a few years back with pleasing results but the difference in the little Bassbreaker is definitely far more audible.

A very cheap and easy improvement for those that own a 007.

Once I get the speaker choice thing sorted it'll be schweeet...
