fave live albums and recommendations

What's Hot
big big fan of live albums and I find I can easily listen to and enjoy a live album from an artist I wouldn't really choose and have none of their studio work.

Van Morrsion - It's Too Late to Stop Now

I bloody love this album, Van the Man is on fire and the band (The Caledonia Soul Orchestra) are just amazing, I would have loved to have been at one of those gigs but I was one 1 yo at the time.

anyhoo that is easy on the top of my recommendations list for a live album to try.

"Live & Dangerous" - Thin Lizzy.

Forget the stories about it not being a true live album and having multiple overdubs. Live footage of Lizzy showed that they could pull it off and represent themselves as per the album. The producer, Tony Visconti, just added some hundreds and thousands to a perfectly iced cake

How the West was won- Zeppelin
Unplugged- Alice in Chains (Clapton is good too)

Jeff Buckley - Mystery white boy is very good (although I think the version of Eternal life on there is rubbish), also the unplugged albums! Alice in Chains unplugged is extremely good as well as the obvious Nirvana Unplugged.

'Live Stock' by Roy Buchanan is great - some incredible guitar playing on it.

'Frampton Comes Alive' probably set the benchmark for live albums - though probably too 'familiar' by now, perhaps.

The live tracks on Santana's 'Moonflower' have a fire that has to be heard; the instrumental 'Europa' is stunning.

Eric Clapton's 'EC Was Here' from the mid-70s proves he could still play, during a period where he was down-playing lead work on studio records.

Dire Straits 'Alchemy' probably represents the band at their peak. They went on to greater success but post-Love Over Gold material was more radio-friendly - and gigs became 'very' big.

'Pulse' by Pink Floyd - stadium rock of the very highest quality.....

I have not heard this but I have an Aerosmith double live album from 1978 and I doubt it can get any better than that, its pretty darn good.
