Hi

I am going to attempt to build a modern sc type guitar made out of Korina / Limba for both the neck and body.

I am trying to decide on which type of fretboard to go with.

I am thinking about the fretboard and trying to decide on either, Bubinga, Pau Ferro, or Wenge.

Has any one used pre slotted fingerboards? It would save a lot of work and some trepidation.

Any opinions as to what to go for?

Thanks

Choose the fretboard based on the colour scheme of the guitar.

It might make a slight difference to the sound, but the looks are more important.

  • For what it's worth, I've got a black limba Tele by Jaden with a pistachio board. I quite like it...

Pau ferro is the easiest of those to work with and feels smoothest, has the least pores

Wenge can have massive pores.  it can wear unevenly if flat sawn.

This looks  like a pretty wenge board, but the lighter bits will wear first

a wenge fretboard like this  will wear better

bubinga is okay but can look a bit dull or totally awesome depending on the piece

nothing wrong with going pre-slotted, but it does limit your choice for woods and non-standard scales
