Great thread! I think it should be guitarists who
    a) had a profound impact on music
    b) have something interesting to say
    c) would have good chemistry when talking shop

    so...

    John Frusciante
    Josh Homme
    Billy F Gibbons
I take it back... this works better!

    Steve Rothery,
    Alex Lifeson,
    Andy Latimer
    Dave Gilmour

(I need to learn to count but I think they could all do an interesting job of jamming together)
This would have been my list and if stuck to 3 I could remove either Lifeson or latimer, tough choice though.

That is despite Gilmour an Rothery being kinda simular.

  • Ted Nugent, Dave Mustaine and Neil Young It'd be 97% politics combined with hilarious right wing comments and Neil Young telling them they're wrong.

Sadly that wouldn't really happen.  It would just be Keef starting stories that sound like they are going to be amazing nuggets of his experiences, then his brain derailing him on to moaning about a mundane everyday object and finally the whole thing petering out into mumbles and smoky chuckles to himself, whilst Gilmour and EVH tried to smile respectfully.

All got different approaches to their playing, and I reckon there could be some great stories.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Swap dave navarro with Tim from protest the hero and I'd be happy.

Or just swap dave navarro with John Frusciante. That'd do.

Another vote for Neil Young here - if he doesn't have a "different" approach to your average guitar hero, then nobody does!

You'd have to contrast him with someone of a more traditional ilk...I vote Mark Knopfler - for his clean, measured playing, plus I am sure he has some great guitar stories to share.

Third choice I am struggling with....Andy Summers? Different enough from the other two, plus I did like the bits in IMGL where they tried to teach each other their songs..Would love to see Neil Young having a go at Message In A Bottle on his old beaten up black LP with fuzz all over the place and the Bigsby going up and down like a oil field pump.

EDIT: Actually, now I think of it, I think Neil Young could do an effin epic version of Message In A Bottle...
