Great thread! I think it should be guitarists who
    a) had a profound impact on music
    b) have something interesting to say
    c) would have good chemistry when talking shop

    so...

    John Frusciante
    Josh Homme
    Billy F Gibbons

    Now THAT would be superb

    Depends on the generation, really...

    Dave Grohl
    Paul Gilbert or Nuno
    Trent Reznor
Now you're talking. Much more interesting than most, even if I don't like a lot of his stuff.

    That said, I'd go:

    Clapton
    Bellamy
    Peter Buck

A good mix of new, old, fx-laden and basic, shred and jangle.

The lack of love for Joe Bonamassa is absolutely shocking.
    He's in "Hostages".

David Gilmour to fill the wise sage role of Paige.
Matt Bellamy to fill the experimental role of Edge.
John 5 to fill the stripped down role of White.

I'd actually really like to see that.

I hadn't seen the first mention of maybe having wimmin in a possible IMGL 2, and was all set to suggest it, whether it be all wimmin, or just one. Ideas floating round my head included Nancy Wilson, and Bonnie Raitt..! Great minds, and all that...!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

The women one. Starting with my favourite Nancy Wilson questions: what first attracted you to the multi millionaire Cameron Crowe? And how much did you get in the divorce?

    Bonnie Raitt, excellent.

Another vote for Neil Young here - if he doesn't have a "different" approach to your average guitar hero, then nobody does!

You'd have to contrast him with someone of a more traditional ilk...I vote Mark Knopfler - for his clean, measured playing, plus I am sure he has some great guitar stories to share.

Third choice I am struggling with....Andy Summers? Different enough from the other two, plus I did like the bits in IMGL where they tried to teach each other their songs..Would love to see Neil Young having a go at Message In A Bottle on his old beaten up black LP with fuzz all over the place and the Bigsby going up and down like a oil field pump.

EDIT: Actually, now I think of it, I think Neil Young could do an effin epic version of Message In A Bottle...

    This. This indeed.

So really you need the third to be a very technical player to contrast with "raw" and "feel".  Satriani or Vai are the best known - but I'm not sure how well known outside of guitar circles.?

All sorts of great onscreen rows there -

Hilter asking Jesus "So are you are fucking Jew or a Christian?"

Darwin explaining to Hitler that it is highly unlikely he was the product of blonde haired, blue eyed Aryans.

Then finally Jesus getting up in Darwin's facing and screaming "My Dad fucking made you man!!", before storming out.

When I first read this thread I was surprised there was no Brian May. He's an elder statesman and a good communicator after all.

Then I realised that we all know he uses his Red Spesh, Rangemaster & AC30 and have heard him say everything there is to say about them a few times over anyway!

Likewise Tom Morello, in a way.

Jonny Marr would be a good one as he has used lots of gear in his time.

As for a youngster, Jake Bugg might be a good one.

My personal wish would be to have Anna Calvi in there.
