G12K-100 in a 112?

Anyone used this set up before?

Looking to get myself a little 112, these speakers sound rather interesting... I usually use v30's in a 212 (though i'm trying to swap these for wgs vet 30's). I'll be using either a 70w MJW (hot 800...) or a 100w jcm900.

k-100 seems an obvious choice as its got the power handling for either amp unlike a single v30, and its supposed to be quite a full sounding speaker.

I like quite a thick sound as opposed to bright. Definitely not a greenback fan. I'd sooner have a fairly dark sounding speaker and have to add treble from my amp rather than worry about cutting treble from a bright speaker! That's also why I'm chasing vet 30's as replacements for v30's!

Opinions appreciated. Second hand K100's for sale appreciated even more haha!

Thanks

Chris

I had a pair of them in a Laney VC50. Great speakers, they tame the high end and because of the amount of power they can handle, the low end is very clear. I'd do it

Be careful with the power rating - I don't really think these are a 'true' 100W speaker in the way that Celestion usually rate them, ie capable of taking an overdriven 100W amp. The speaker design is based on a G12T-75 but fitted with an H magnet - which may increase the handling slightly but it's still really a 75W voice coil. I've seen at least one blown one when used with a 100W amp.

Another possibility is a Marshall 1912 cab which comes stock with a G12B-150, which is an even beefier version of the same thing, probably more closely related to the old G12H-100 which is definitely a true 100W speaker.

    I'll check out the g12b
if I used the 900 with it I doubt I would ever run it close to flat out so chances are it would be safe?

Yes. It will take a clean 100W amp no problem - or one with preamp distortion at the same volume - you just probably shouldn't crank the power stage into overdrive.

To be fair, the amp (or possibly amps) which I've seen blow them were solid-state combos, which are actually harder on speakers than valve amps are, even though they don't seem to sound as loud.
