I'd file away the pick guard to make it fit but probdbly buy a second guard to do it in case you need to reverse it in the future.
reshaping the whole curve is a good idea if the finish under the guard is consistent with the rest. Just don't go too far as it will stand out

i would mark the new shape with tape. cut most of the excess off with a coping or band saw. file the edge to final shape, I sanding block will work too. File the bevel by hand. Then tidy up with fine grit paper or scrapers
