Is a 2nd master volume or boost possible to install on a marshall 2203???

I've seen a very tatty and much messed with marshall 2203 for sale locally.
Its in good shape electrically, but has an extra hole on the front panel and an fx loop in the back.

I was thinking maybe I could use the extra hole in the front to add a solo boost and as I only need the high input maybe I could use that to plug the footswitch into.Even better if I can get one that has an LED too.


Is this a workable idea?? Anyone tried it? Is it an easy mod for someone who services amps???

Probably need a relay, and a powersupply to run it, but thats entirely do-able.

He's been told that a million times but for some reason he won't.

Anyway Dan Gower (IIRC) does pretty much any Marshall mod possible.

I have indeed .
and when I tried it neither sounded as good as when it was bypassed . Added noise too.

In that case you just need a passive volume *cut* in the loop for your rhythm sound. That's really all a second master volume is going to do.

Why make things more complicated? Modding the amp with a relay and an extra knob is possible, but more work than just putting the switch and the knob in a box.

Could do the same with an EQ pedal of course, just knock it down in whatever curve is wanted.
