Analogueman Sun Lion

Has anyone got any experience with one of these? From the demos I've heard sound great to me but as always it depends on amp style how they sound in real life :(

I should have pounced on Thorpy's Veteran when I had a chance as that is a similar take on this. Albeit the SunLion does the have the 4 jack option that I like :)

I had one and I loved the Boost, it worked amazingly well with a tweedy type amp. In fact it was perfect for that.

What didn't work well was the fuzz side of things. I think you need quite a bit of headroom to get away with the fuzz side of things. Unfortunately a tweed doesn't have the headroom that will enable you to cut through the band mix. Actually you might just disappear into the mix (I did when I used it).

The best fuzz i found for this type of set up is the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Mini. It does not get too bass heavy and it cuts through the mix.

    It it sounds like this

I would be more tempted to buy a Beano Boost and the BoG fuzz face as separates.

  • Hmmm not keen on that sound. I have checked a few videos of the Analogueman astrouzz which supposed to be designed to be used with a tweed type amp

I would suggest that if he is designing a fuzz to be used with a tweed amp he is inadvertently saying that his current range doesn't suit a tweed particularly well.

That pedal sounds nice but I would have thought there are options at a fraction of that price that will get you that tone.

Of all the fuzz face pedals I've tried I think the more expensive ones are the more picky ones.

I've been on a huge fuzz journey with my J20. The one that I found works the best with that amp is the Barefoot Pink Purple Fuzz. I currently own two as a result, but could be tempted to part with one just for you David ;-)

Thanks. Let me get back to you after I've checked a few videos to give me an idea. Just out of interest how come you have two :)

I've heard great things about these. Apparently they are a mix between drive and fuzz. Is that right?

Yes, which maybe the reason why it's worked so well with my tweed amp. A muff just doesn't seem to work as well with a 5e3 amp imo. The PPF also works after buffers which is very handy...

Yes I found that too. Had to move my Muff on but I know it was an excellent pedal :( So I'm a bit skeptical on them ever working with my J20 but yours sounds hopeful :) I have to be honest though and say I kind of want to hear more of the ThorpyFX Veteran and if that works well with the J20 I'm hoping someone here might want to move it on to me ;)
