Origin Effects: Sliderig CD vs Cali 76 CD - Can Either Add Gain ?

Simple question folks - which one adds gain/drive/od or can clip your amp?

Anyone played both, and can explain the main differences ?

  • I have cali 76 cd and the big box slide rig.

I haven't tried to get either to self clip so not sure if that's possible... but both can add a lot of boost to a sound, so can certainly push the amp harder.

Biggest difference is control. Cali 76 has a blend knob, I really like this as you can get both the transient and the sustain.  It's such a clear compressor too.

Slide rig is a different beast. Limited control and it's really shooting for a specific dual compressor sound. Too squishy for me as a normal compressor but does do something wonderful to slide. Quite noisy though.

    Love both though.

  • Sliderig CD was the one I opted for. Has a blend control and could get the Cali sound with the single stage compression, with the option of the second stage, sounds blissful. Less controls the better for me. Found the Sliderig to be slightly more transparent to the Cali. But both sound incredible.

Never tried cliiping with it or going into overdriven territory, but both the Sliderig and Cali can get pretty hot.

  • Guess the big box and compact slide rigs are quite different then. The big one is far from transparent.

Yeah, transparent isn't a word I'd asscoiate with any of the Origin stuff...I meant literally "slightly more transparent than the Cali". :-)

  • I know it's not one of the options here, but the Fairfield Circuitry comp can definitely add some hair to your tone at higher settings.

  • Be warned. You might want to keep both. They really are excellent pedals.

Patrick, you may be right !!!

Actually, both are CD versions, with the Sliderig having been kindly lent by someone on this lovely forum.

The Cali76 CD is one of the TPS ones which Ive purchased.

    My Cali76 CD is excellent
I would advise: these pedals make  active pickups sound too noisy. Probably same with non-hum-cancelling single coils.

I've personally never had a major problem with either Jazzmaster or Tele pups with my CD, just a very small amount of background noise at very extreme settings at the end of a long note decay. Active I imagine could be worse though.
