For certain definitions of "nicer looking".

I'd rather it was the sunburst junior up for grabs that's hanging on the wall behind the guy in that video!

Well I think it's a lovely thing indeed.  Always liked those old Hagstrom's.

Looks like the sort of thing Jack White would play, in other words....fuck ugly.

What's that square mesh panel in-between the pickups for?

  • Hard to believe KC was massively strung out on Heroin when he bought this.

    What a fucking mess !!!

Its the equivalent of Chevrolet Spark, I had one on car hire and it looked like it had already had major accident damage on every corner and panel when it was new !!!

Reminds me of early Roxy Music.

Hagstrom were an accordian manufacturer before venturing into guitars, and it shows with this model. The double-cut 'batman' is even cooler. Not something I'd desperately want to own (and apparently they're a nightmare to refret) but I appreciate the look.

As for the 'owned by Kurt' guitar, perhaps he did, but there isn't a single photo or video of him playing it, nor record of him talking about it.

  • I couldve sworn there were some bass, drums and keyboard in Roxy music.
Didnt know they all played geeetar.

Apologies for the Roxy Music doublepic! Actually I'd have thought this guitar would be familiar to most people on the forum. These early Hagstroms are quite iconic, and there have been attempts to revive the look. Things like the Italia Maranello for example.

Bleeurgghh! Pass the bucket! If there's anything in the guitar world that would put me off playing, it's something like this.

Don't care what it sounds like, or how affordable it is, to me it's plastic tat. Sorry. Actually, no I'm not sorry.

    Bleeurgghhh! Again!

Yep, they're definitely pretty cool. Hagstrom also did the more popular/cheaper Hagstrom I with a plastic front. I've got a lilac one like this:

I have a 1963 Hagstrom II. It was my very first guitar back in 1990, great neck for tiny 8 year old hands. Well worth the £15 my parents paid for it but wouldn't pay a penny more for one...

i like the body shape on those hags a lot & the ones with the classic hagstrom swoop headstock look even better. that's got the stumpy kind. these best & nicer in black.

if it's glitter (black best always) then a deep blood red my choice..
i bet that glossy fretboard is nice to play too. hopefully they are not shit fibreglass like the airlines.
def too much plastic in finish & controls, which prob makes it feel cheap & toyish.
there are nicer hags, the batman in gloss black or red glitter would be my choice (below) or the vintage sg-ish ones (hiin) that everyone knows. but one in the op still nice.
not bothered about the cobain connection. never was very nirvana, though i think he was sincere about his art & i respect his work.
