Adding a 22nd fret

Just wondered if anyone here has had a 22nd fret added to their 21 fret guitar? I have a 1983 SQ Squier Strat which is the best Strat I have ever played- and I've owned and played many. I'm using it more and more often these days but the lack of a 22nd fret is really bothering me. I play in F and F# a lot and without that extra fret..

Before anyone suggests buying a replacement neck or a different Strat, not an option. This Strat is one fret short of being perfect :-)

a replacement neck really is the best option

you need to pull a few frets and add an extension to the board

I had a customer yesterday who wanted me to fit 3 extra frets on a "clip-on extension".

Interesting thread...it never occurred to me that adding extra frets to a guitar neck was even possible, but clearly its not that uncommon a mod.

I dunno about "clipping on" an extension. Warmoth gives ideas of how it might be done.

If a neck pickup is already in place, things get more complicated and one would have to look to ideas like those on Uli Jon Roth's Sky Guitars (also manufactured by Dean), which have pickups mounted under the fretboard.

Nah. I was going to suggest he sticks a pole in the end and play it upright as well but that would be going too far over to the dark side...!
