Went into the above today, it used to be an amazing place but these days to much focus on the new and needlessly expensive,  hardly any used at the mo apart from this -1

I'm not sure if they have gone mental but £500 for this!  And as stated in very good plus condition, the push pull doesn't work, changed humbucker, more wear and tear than pretty much any guitar I have seen, (I wish I got a pic of the back)  I know rent is expensive but that price I'd laughable.

If it was a reasonable price I would have bought it

    They have a '56 P bass in there - that's also VG+

    ;)

Its also quite a bit of money as well tho!

Not worth £500, but I'd rock the hell out of that

What is it? Thought is was a Melody Maker, but I've never seen one without a bridge pickup route
    Stop crying, start buying

Is it one of the 'backwards' ones they built for John Ottway? I'm sure he destroyed most of them though...

The wear and tear is the least of its problems... someone built it with the bridge studs in the wrong place for it to intonate properly. Not to mention the pickup in the wrong place :).

In that condition it does actually look like it might have belonged to John Otway though, in which case it's probably VG+ to Excellent.

  • I played that the other day and thought it was great! It matches the Otway one in wood figuring too, must have been his one.

It's difficult to be certain because alternate lighting direction gives a 'positive/negative' effect to the wood grain in the mahogany, but it definitely does look possible. The spacing and direction of the grain stripes looks the same, if you reverse the colour banding.

Interesting (I've seen JO several times going way, way back i to my mis-spent youth, both with and without WWB and he was top entertainment every time...) but not £500 interesting...
Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...
