P90 guitar help

What's Hot
So I'm really taken with the idea of a P90 guitar, I used to have one but stupidly got rid of it.
I love the Les Paul with P90 but am also taken with the idea of a 335 style with P90. Is there any particular songs to listen to to get an idea before I go trying tons of different ones to get an idea of the sound

The Who's 'Live At Leeds' is one of the oft-cited classic examples...

The solo on 'Another Brick In The Wall, Part II' is another.

The lead on '5AM' off David Gilmour's most recent solo album is one I particularly like.

    P90 + semi hollow = Epiphone Casino.

Anything Lennon played post 1965ish - or Paperback Writer is completely Casino or the solo to Taxman (played by McCartney).

    Or Sunflower by Weller

But modern Epi Casinos rarely sound that good without a pickup change, as they tend to be a bit muddy - plenty of upgrades available though.

What about a semi chambered Lp style
Here's one I made, it had mojo p90's, I thought it sounded great in the hands of someone good, not me

This has changed my mind on p90's btw and it's fairly light 7.3/4lb, it'll give you an idea on the tone and it's properly recorded which helps

There is live footage of this somewhere on YT - it was a P90 Goldtop LP

    Honest and raw...

    Jared James Nichols.

Guy plays a Les Paul Custom with one P90 in the bridge.

  • Mississippi Queen by Mountain.
My favourite guitar tone ever recorded. It's a LP Jr.

  • Listen to these. It's actually a Fender amp even though Orange sponsored the event.

I love this guitar. Apart from the custom made sticker that is. Despite being "off" les pauls I've been quite tempted to wait for a cheap CM to come up to do something similar wth a humsize p90.

Oh yes. Something about goldtop that suits creme p90s perfectly.

  • If there were ever a P90 tone to die for, Leslie West's would be it.

The only way that could be any better is if it was nicely aged, with checking and some green-ing.

If you want a 335 with P90s, then the references to Epi Casino, Gary Clark Jr and Grant Green are a bit misleading as they are fully hollow + P90.

Here is a Gibson ES 335 Limited Edition with P90s.

Also, a stoptail without the Tune-O-Matic looks so much better.

Screw intonation, looks are more important.

I'd probably do straight knobs like a junior, I really must do one of them, lovely looking
Lightly aged would look so good

  • Love the look of that single pickup Les Paul. The tone on mississippi Queen is legendry, but the Gary Clark Jr sound is absolutely killer
