Strange cable found in my spares box!!

RockerRocker Frets: 4944
No idea when or if I bought it or what it does.  It is a cable around 10 to 15 feet long with a jack plug at one end and what looks like a female balanced connector at the other end.  Anyone care to suggest what it was meant for, I could chop off the balanced connector and solder a jack plug to make it a spare guitar lead but I would like to know what it was designed for first.  Thanks.

Mic to old-fashioned PA without balanced inputs, most likely.

Or it could be a Trace Elliot speaker cable - they used XLRs for speaker connections - although I would expect that to be shorter.
