A small grey glass pebble. about 11 years ago my youngest step son  was going on a school trip to York, and they were allowed to take £1 spending money. i gave him his £1 in the morning and i put an extra £1 in his jeans pocket and told him not to tell the teachers, but he didnt have to spend it if he didnt want it. Anyway i go to pick him up for school and ask him how his day was and he hands me this small glass pebble, i asked him what it was and his response was " i used my pound and bought you this coz i love you" that pebble has lived in my pocket ever since apart from one day. My wife was rushed into hospital on a Saturday night pregnant, i had to leave her there and go home to sort the dog, got up on the Sunday morning, walked down the hill to get the bus to the Hospital, went to pay for the bus and realised my pebble wasnt there. Spent the the day in the hospital, we lost the baby, a horrible horrble day. Left the hospital in the evening, got the bus home and was walking up the hill to the house, head down, lost in my own thoughts and there on the kerb, 13 hours after it had fallen through a hole in my jeans pocket was a small grey glass pebble. Its now broken in half and chipped and bits missing but its in my pocket.
wow, a bit of a tearjerker that!

  • Apologies @BigMonka wasnt meant to ruin anyones Friday morning. That wee pebble is the only thing in my world that cant be replaced, there isnt much left of it, and the wee lad who bought it joins the Marines in a couple of months, so that gives you an idea of how long i have had it.

  • as long as I got the wife and cats out of the house before it burnt down I'm not too fussed. Only two irreplaceable things are my Grandad's flight goggles and a book made and signed by his squadron, both from the Battle of Britain.

  • In 1990 my parent bought me a Strat Plus for my 17th birthday, in honour of a throwaway comment they made when I got my first no-name Les Paul copy aged 14. "If you can learn to play Purple Haze we'll get you a Fender."

They saved up for three years to buy it for me. It was only many, many years later that I cottoned on how much of a financial outlay it was for them, on working-class wages.

So yeah, keeping that one! Everything else is pretty much just stuff.

I'd be pretty upset if I managed to lose some of my graphic art/comic book collection - but other than that, nothing at all.

  • My grandfather's cufflinks, which come with me every time I'm wearing a suit for a special occasion (rather than just a client meeting). And my wedding ring, obviously. At some point soon I'll be adding a very special watch with some inheritance from my Nana, which I'm intending to be with me forever.

Guitar-wise it's my Gibson 336 (21st present) and my mongrel of a strat that's been with me forever.

My grandad flew mosquitoes in Burma during WW2.

He was also a fantastic artist and good with his hands.

He carved a model mosquito and a spitfire from an old propeller that had been scrapped.

When he returned from the war he had them mounted on bases and put them in his living room.

He died last year and passed them to me. They are cherished.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

In my mums loft there is a small suitcase. Inside it are my 10 action men. Actually they are not all action men, some are 'Marx men' (Vikings, knights, cowboys, indians). They were far and away my best toy as a kid and I couldn't bear to think of them going to some fate unknown. I don't need to have them around me, I just need to know that my old pals are there.

A cheap black baseball cap that Snowy, my elderly cat, ended up sleeping on. I was a bit miffed at the time but he passed away about 2 weeks later, so the cap now sits on my bedroom chest of drawers.

    EDIT

I was miffed because Snowy covered the cap in white fur but it's a memory of him I can't replace.

A copper kettle that my great great grandfather who was a coppersmith made.
It's of no great value but I've always liked it and was dead chuffed when dad gave it to me when I bought my house.
