I know the band (particularly the singer) is a bit Marmite, but IMO the guitarist was a killer player with great touch and tone.

I've been learning how to play "Stepped On A Crack" recently.  The rhythm parts are fairly simple, but getting the feel right is trickier than I thought.

AFAIK, his rig around that time was
  • An HHH partscaster
  • A simple pedal board (pretty much just wah + tubescreamer)
  • Modded Marshalls (SuperLeads I think), cranked up LOUD ...
The guitar build and amp mods were done by a guy called Rich Koerner (Time Electronics).

Generally my taste in guitars is pretty traditional, but there's something about this one I really like:

His playing felt a bit refreshing in it's era, sadly those kind of players get less opportunities to be heard on the big stage these days. I recall covering one or two of the singles when they were hits and the playing was tasty. (Not mine obviously)!

  • I thought they were great when they came in the scene. Eric Schenkman us a really tasty player. He plays for the song and manages to be funky and tuneful at the same time.
