no reason it shouldn't work, harder to keep clean though and I think there are better ways to get a frictionless finish

 

I love the potential of the idea, for instance i have considered getting some elements of my arm tattoo carved or burned into a neck shaft

I would like to give it a try for sure, I have a few of my own ideas in regards to necks but they are a bit crazy. Maybe one day I shall mock up some prototypes.
