Pedal advice for my Carr Sportsman

What's Hot
JonHoskerJonHosker Frets: 392
Just bought a Carr Sportsman 1X12 amp.
So so happy and now I begin the decision about pedals.
Thinking RYRA, OCD, (Have MXR EP booster already), Boss Wazza delay, Boss CE Wazza Chorus.
Money permitting..it'll be a slow build.
Any thoughts? Especially drive choices.
Still got 8/9 months left in the KOT queue.
Thanks Jon

Welcome to the Carr club. Love my Impala these days. The Sportsman has a headroom control, no? So just get your dirt from the amp?

Yep, the headroom (HR) knob acts as 'break-up' and works superbly.

So VOL up, HR down - clean sounds

VOL down, HR up - od/break up

Not a lot of breakup though if I recall. It's a brilliant pedal platform. Most ODs will work

I think the Sportsman is @dindude  's favourite amp. I also think he was a fan of the Bondi sick as and the LGW by mad professor  :)

Spot on, I'm glad I've banged on about them for so long it's sunk in! :)

But yes, Sportsman 1x12 has been my amp of choice for the last 4 years, it takes pedals very well and I've had success with many, but for mid gain, mid push, the LGW has seen off all comers for many a year, and for low gain the Bondi Sick As is the nuts, can do Klon type stuff but also slightly more compressed, easy to live with stuff too.

For higher gain stuff I'm currently using a Jam Rattler, which is a vintage Rat clone.

Enjoy the search but the Sportsman gives a great platform.

Congrats on your Sportsman. I have a 1x12 and it's wonderful.
As for pedals, I use a light OD, a 'Ratty' dist and a muff and the amp is great with all of them.
I also particularly liked the standard Boss BD-2, Buffalo TD-X & Evolution.
You're welcome to pop over and try a few out.

Ooh, I've had in mind for a while to try a TDX, how does it compare to Rat type with regards to levels of gain and midrange?

I'm having a lot of success with just an RC Boost on all the time and just working the guitar volume with my Rambler.

This is what I do too!

i have an OCD for heavier od and use a ts mini to push through when it's solo time.

I'd suggest the LAL Rattle Crow. It sort of sounds like a broken autowah. Lots of harsh chirrups and pain-inducing, unmusical squarking.

Warren's mains supply gives him all the distortion he needs....here he is, preparing to solo...
