'Replica's , copies , fakes and friends

after reading an add on gumtree, selling a 'replica' Slash Chibson I wonder on what other players felt when reading these adds.

i know plenty of vintage 'lawsuit' stuff out there. But should a line be drawn.

for example, the seller is being upfront on its birth, but all it takes is a buyer to put it back on the market sumwhere to make a wad of cash ripping sumone off.

chibsons were made for this, they are not 'replica' they are fakes intending to rip off. As with all copies replicas etc.

selling it on even being genuine, is surely as bad. I just used this add as an example. I sent him a message to keep it as a wall hanger , or burn it.

im sure there are legals on even reselling a fake, even if your being honest about it.

it just gets me, as with anything fake,it's a rip off and should be destroyed.

where do you stand on this, just wondered on forumites views

i think if its Gibson shaped and it says Gibson on the headstock then its obviously meant to fool people into thinking they have the real deal, so i believe they should be destroyed as somewhere along the line someone is going to get ripped off. If the head is balnk or says something else then its not a problem.

Fair point on if something has a 'badge' which I spose has the intent to deceive , without a badge it's a working ornament

I spose there is also issue with companies who sell the decals, although I did buy one once to replace a serial number that had beeen scrapped of a crafted in Japan neck. But I had the original tele bridge to prove I was replacing a genguine sticker etc......I wasn't asked though...I could have just made it up and copied a serial off eBay

That was a most amusing thread.

I live in a place where for many, walking miles to get get fresh drinking water is the norm, there is no free education and healthcare is an expense few can afford.

these are the sort of issues that I consider worth getting upset about.

however, on here, people were getting quite worked up about some guy building an excellent replica. Bandying about words like 'despise' etc

i guess it depends on your perspective, but I found it to be an excellent example of '1st world problems'.
