Rig overhaul options

I play in a regular gigging band, mainly rock and blues covers/originals in the usual unmic'ed pubs and clubs.

My main aim amp is a cornford roadhouse 50 2x12 combo and I use a peavy classic 50 2x12 combo for backup. I really like both of these amps as they are easily loud enough, sound good and are reliable for regular gigging. The only problem is I now live in a 4th floor flat and they are so heavy and unportable and I'm a bit fed up of lugging them around 2-3 times a week!

so I am wondering about getting 2 small heads and 2 1x12 cabs. I could then use one head and one cab for rehersal and take the additional cab for gigs with the other head as a spare. If the singers amp went down at a gig we could use a head and one cab each to get through.

just wondering what is out there to fit this purpose. Main requirements are, portable, small, fx loop, loud enough to gig and enough head room to use a clean boost in the loop for solos.

initial thoughts are jet city 22hv, orange or15, any others?

its likely to be funded by the sale of the other two amps so I guess £500. Second hand is fine

  • Blackstar HT5R head and a nice efficient cab will do the trick. Just so happens I'm selling the very thing in the classifieds section ;-)

Ive gigged with this setup for a good few months now and it's been excellent. It's loud enough to hear on stage and sounds excellent mic'd up. I run a small pedalboard with it, compressor in the front and a chorus, delay and boost in the loop, it's takes all pedals really well.

  • Is the £500 budget just for the head, or does it need to include a cab?  And are you looking for a clean pedal platform, or do you need drive from the amp?

I recently sold my Peavey C50 (which I used as a pedal platform) and bought a Victory V40 to replace it.

It's still early days (one rehearsal, no gigs), but so far I really like the V40.  At home volumes I was a bit worried it might be too dark, but with the band it sounded great and punched through more clearly than the Peavey.  (Of course it's not really a fair comparison because I'm now using a different cab, although I loaded it with the speakers which were previously in the C50).

    I really don't see how a 5w practice amp is gonna replace a 50w valve 2x12???

ive played an HT-5 ( used to sell em too) and they are really quiet, anything over 12'oclock on the volume and it flatlined....

Ideally £500 for both cab and head. Happy for the drive to come from the amp or a completely clean pedal platform. I use the amp drive on the cornford and the peavy currently but I have a thorpyfx gunshot on the board to use into a completely clean amp if we are playing anywhere with supplied or shared backline and I think that sounds epic too! So don't mind either way

OK, in that case the V40 is out of budget - you might find the head for £600-ish, but a cab would be at least £150 on top.
