Recording king make some nice guitars, but trying one might be difficult..
Same with The Loar, which I believe are part of the same company (RK going for the pre-war Martin aesthetic, Loar going for the Gibson look of the same era). Most of their small body acoustics are blues-box type of things, but they have one parlour with a full scale length.

Thanks for all the comments - very useful. I'd looked at a couple of Loars and they do look great value. But the Faith is winning so far.

There's a Tanglewood TW73 on eBay too that looks very nice. £350 - case, inbuilt pickup and New around £800. That's tempting me...

The TW133 I have is a fantastic guitar, I have a Faith Venus? I think it is, and a cats eyes, but the TW gets played the most. I can jam away from finger picking to jazz/blues and love the way it compresses the 'growls' when you really dig in. I do like cedar tops too like the TW73 - they are soft though and pick up dings and scrapes easily IMHO something to be wary of if that bothers you. You won't go wrong with that or a mercury (gotta love a slotted headstock though huh?)

My parlour is an Alvarez AP66SHB. It's a great guitar for the money, solid top, bone nut and saddle, though I did change the tuners to grovers as the originals weren't the best.

I play it way more than my other guitars as this one comes to work and the pub sessions with me.

    Secondhand Taylor GS mini mahogany

Not a parlour though, is it?  Its not got that whole "old guitar" aesthetic.

True enough, the overall size is parlourish, but sound wise there was no comparison for me and the GS was just more fun to play

Well, I've bought the eBay Tanglewood TW73. Solid cedar top, solid mahogany back and sides, fishman pickup, case etc. Looked like a bargain - they are about £800 new - and lovely vintage sunburst finish. Toss up between that and the Mercury. Hopefully, it'll turn out to be a good decision.

Thanks for for all the suggestions, chaps! Wisdoms all round.

    Tidy!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.
