Having a guitar made... who would you pick to do it?

There are a few guys on here, who do it as a sort of hobby, knocking out the odd one, here and there. I'd probably go with one of those guys!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I was turned on to Scotts work when I was looking for a replacement neck for an EVH Wolfgang. Checking out Jet City guitars I saw the guitars he has made and thought they were mint, so I was gonna order a custom one for me when this popped up, it was one he made for himself but ended up never playing it.

It was pretty close to what I was looking to order except body wood so I thought to hell with it and took the plunge. Great guitar, beautifully made, plays and sounds awesome!! I know he is stateside but he is super friendly and can make you whatever you like pretty much, although I've never seen him make an LP style guitar.

Lightweight alder body with custom thin skin matte inca silver finish, Birds Eye Maple neck, dark indian RW fretboard, graphite reinforcement rods, 15" radius, Peavey wolf neck carve, full german schaller parts, bourns pots, switchcraft parts.

If I do get another guitar in the near future it's likely to be a Tele or a slightly tweaked Tele.  I associate Feline more with the Lion and Lion Cub, likewise I associate Eggle more with humbucker guitars as well.

Does anyone know anything about Eternal guitars in Chichester?  Or does anyone know anyone else who builds decent guitars based on the classic Fenders?

Speak to Michael Couling at California Artist Guitars....you will not go wrong and his prices are nowhere near fender custom shop but the quality and finish are...I now have 2 tele style guitars from him....they are superb.

here's a link to my first one built by him

    and here's a picture of my 2nd

Cheers mate, yeah it's pretty awesome I think to. Lightly oiled and plays beautifully!

My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

I would go Feline if I was having something made for me.

I could tell who I absolutely wouldn't use, but not publicly on a forum. Not impressed with this person ....

MD Philips would be top of my list (but then, I have got sausage fingers). ;-)
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

@samzadgan got a millimetric guitar built that's the coolest instrument I've ever seen. I absolutely love it. Would be my first port of call.

That said, I'd be very nervous about speccing my own guitar. I'm not sure that I know what I want - I just want to pick something up and connect with it as is. Plus my tastes have changed a lot over the years so I'd be nervous about changing my mind down the line. So if I was doing it I'd definitely want to visit the workshop and get hands on first.

Odessa guitars would be my next one...a single P90 Deadbeat.
alternatively, a Harvester would be cool too

but...I think i've had my dream guitar already made for me by Millimetric.

there arent many other guitars that i find as inspiring. A few years ago, I guess EGC would have been on my list, but since I have a Bastin Aluminium neck...that's quenched that thirst as well.

I know what you mean. Once I'd specced my guitar, I had a few panicky doubts about what I had chosen. However, once I had it in my hands I was very relieved I'd stuck to my guns.

    it just felt like home.

No - I believe you can only contact him via telepathy - or if you're a member of the Masons....

my only advice, albeit through limited experience, is dont over think the specs. Go with first instincts and stick with it.

the other piece of advice, dont think the 1 you are getting done is the only guitar you will have to live with for the rest of your life...you will get other guitars and you may even get more custom builds, so relax and enjoy the experience rather than over thinking it and trying to get the holy grail in one guitar.

    - My personal 10 penneth is to buy what you can already touch as you know what the finished product is - To sit down and design a guitar from the ground up and hope it turns out ok is to be a risk for me personally, based on feel and tone as much as anything - I know it would be good, if I ordered a custom built guitar, but would it be the bees knees and one to keep for ever ?
Same here Mark even though I could have Charlie Chandler put me together a high quality bitsocaster or Jonathan at Feline build me a dream guitar (both have been discussed) but even with their great reputations, I just can't bring myself to do it, but if I did, I'd go with Feline Guitars.

Apparently he's retiring in a couple of years and may not be taking any more orders.
