  • Totally agree about the Guiness in Ireland. So much better in my experience.
Also loved the Murphy's during a tour of south west Ireland.

I like a Schiehallion too but rarely see it on draught. In terms of bottled beer I drink at home, not sure what my favourite is but the likes of Joker IPA and Gladeye are near the top of the list. When I'm in the pub a pint of Punk is probably my favourite but to be honest it changes all the time.

It won't be a pint but it will be an ice cold, 660ml bottle of Keo...in the Cyprus sunshine in mid August.

You can can get it in some branches of Tesco but it doesn't travel that well.  Still nice, but not quite the same as supping it on the island where it was brewed.

William Bros' Perfect Storm has been my beer of choice for a few months now. Refreshing, hoppy enough but still with a nice fruity tang, and doesn't give me any indigestion (as some beers can).
    A great session ale.

Wis'd there, great stuff and dirt cheap in Aldi. Their Golden Ratio is a winner also, and also the March of the Penguins Stout. In fact, I have never disliked any of their range.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Having drunk Guiness in Dublin, I cant honestly say I found it any different to that served on the mainland. And from several different bars.
As for a favourite pint, much as I like Theakstons Old Pec, if you are lucky enough to find it, their XB is sublime.
Sam Smiths Nut Brown - grew up on that :) And their lager is absolutely spectacular. The only place I have seen it on tap was at The Finnieston in Glasgow.

Oh, and until I moved 2 years ago, I lived in Alloa, home of the Williams Bros Brewery. As you can imagine, local beer fests were rather good. March Of The Penguins or 7 Giraffes for me.....

@kalimna agreed on the Guinness. A good pint of the black stuff is a good pint wherever it is pulled. Maybe less likely to get a terrible one in Ireland, but it's the same stuff. They don't keep any special barrels back with magical Liffey water.

Hyfryd! We are blessed in Wales with many great breweries these days, even in the north. The Purple Moose shop in Porthmadog has a good selection from several small Welsh breweries. It's not just Brains you want! (Though I do like a dark and sa gold).

Guinness notoriously doesnt travel well. A pint of guiness on the uk mainland tastes like something drained out of a ford escort oil filter. The guinness in kerry couldnt have been more opposite.

Dead right, @RobDavies we'll be there in May doing exacty that, although I don't mind it on draught either...
Last year we went to the Aphrodite's Rock brewery just outside Paphos, had a very pleasant afternoon trying their various brews.

I have been known to stop in Port and come out of the shop with a box of the stuff - Dark Side of the Moose being my favourite. I can also recommend a visit to the Cwrw Llŷn brewery - not really that much to see but you get to try three of the beers and they'll chat to you about what goes into the different brews, the history of them etc.

Some great small brewers in Cardiff/Newport as well - Tiny Rebel, Crafty Devil, Tomos & Lilford. And more springing up everywhere.
