Things to do round about Chester?

What's Hot

Me, Mrs CJ and our 6 year old son are heading down that way for a 4 day break in mid-April and I'm looking for some "things to do" suggestions.   The Zoo is a given and I see that there is an aquarium close to the oaks and the safari park isn't  too far away either.

Anything else that I should be looking at to entertain the team?

A walk around the walls is good. There is quite a lot of roman stuff to look at too.

You are not to far away from N Wales beaches - subject to rain etc

Chester is  a nice walk around the wall/town - plenty of pavement cafes etc - pedestrian area shops

You've mentioned the zoo and that will easily be a day

Chester to Manchester is not far and they have a great winter/ski dome arena - plus good crazy gold/cinema etc in Trafford Park

I would have suggested the Races, but the season doesn't start until May.

    Boat cruise on the river?

I go through that way frequently as i'm a Tranmere Rovers supporter. There's a massive aquarium i think, plus the zoo.

The women are impeccable up to the age of 35, then the years of being impeccable take their toll and they look like drag queens that have been 8 rounds with a heavyweight.

The ice cream farm is good fun for a day out.  Ice cream (obviously!) farm animals for the kids and kids outdoor play stuff.  We go their a few times a year.

Depending upon where you are staying in Chester go to Parkgate for fish and chips and an ice cream. Fantastic place on the estuary (and I happen to live there too).

Highest gate in the National League would disagree!

We still put most FL clubs to shame with our home gate, visiting clubs love us because we're the biggest payday in the league!

  • The canal museum in Ellesmere Port is not far from Chester. It's quite good from what I remember and you can take a canal boat trip

the new Islands bit in the zoo is very good, but go straight there when you get in if you go first thing, since the queues for the Islands boatride can be like those at Disneyland (or go for the last ride, when most parents have gone home)
