A bit of LP Custom for the weekend

While having a pleasant Friday morning watching Aussie football and doing a bit of catch up, I decided it might be a good time to do some restringing etc on guitars that don't see or play too often. I pulled this one out and just realised what a great guitar it is. It's a 92 Custom Plus. I've had it about 9/10 years or so and before that obviously belonged to someone who was meticulous with their gear. Apart from a couple of hints to the age of the thing it's looking good.  The reason I have not played it much has always been because when I reach for a custom it's always the 57 RI Black Beauty or my well hammered 76 3 pick up with the original T Tops. Having plugged this thing in I'm realising that the 490R and 498T pick up combo is way better than I remembered when wound up. Anyway I thought I would share a bit of LP Custom joy going into the weekend. :)

Nice top, until I saw this I usually favoured black or white on a Les Paul Custom. Just shows you.....

Must admit that there is nothing more lovely than an Ebony LPC, probably another reason why I always go to one of my other two.

Lovely - but I'm slightly confused re the 'Plus' designation. Gibson say:

Gibson made the Les Paul Custom Plus (LPCC) in the mid 1990s. It was like a Les Paul Custom but had a bound figured maple top and gold hardware. Pickups were 490T and 498R humbuckers and finish options were wineburst, honeyburst, cherryburst or vintage sunburst. The neck had the '59 profile.

     - presumably its just the figured top that's different? - all customs (except special editions eg Silverburst) had gold hardware.

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

@voxman yep just the figured top. There was also an even more flame version if i remember right. That sounds like a classic Gibson bit of misinformation. As you say , the only chrome hardware version I know between 79/80 and the 90's was the silver burst ( someone may know better ? ) The concept of using anything other than plain grain wood was still something of a major novelty back then. it was probably PRS  who blew the myth that it was special ( and in Gibson cases expensive ) then later on they suddenly found loads of it for a gazillion LP models from factory to Custom shop.

After @Koa's comment re ebony LPC's this is the '76, beat up but plays great. I have a full set of cream plastic from about the same era as the guitar, question is, do I 70's it ? (think Brian Robertson , Peter Frampton ?

After debating putting some cream plastic on my 76 Custom, I decided to give it a go today. It certainly looks very 70's classic rock :) Not sure whether I like the all black look or this one. Any thoughts ?

Thanks guys. Yep @richardhomer , I've decided to leave it Framptonised. Makes a nice contrast to the BB7 and has a flavour nostalgia about it :)

Two very nice looking LPs there!  And I definitely like the Frampton look (one of my early guitar heroes - I still love 'Frampton Comes Alive').  As an aside, and purely a personal preference, I also much prefer the Tulip tuning pegs on your 'Frampton' than the 'round button' pegs.  Not quite sure why, but the tulip shape just somehow look and feel a bit more 'special'.
