Xotic Wah Users

picked one of these up the other week and although it's a really great Wah, it has a really, gritty, throaty sound to it that I can't seem to dial out.

My main Wah is a CAE that I use on the yellow setting, which is meant to sound more like a Crybaby I think.

I'd love to be able to dial the Xotic in to sound as close to that as possible.

Any suggestions for settings?

Been a while since I've fiddled with, or even looked at, the little knoblets on mine. From memory though I have everything set around 1 o'clock and like the sound of it.

Have you gone inside yet and flipped the few switches in there?

Yeh, there are switches on the inside too. One of them is a 'smooth' switch, which i recommend having 'on'. There are sample settings in the manual - have you got it?

Yeah, I've fiddled with all the external and internal switches.

The smooth is on, and I've tried quite a lot of other combinations but it just doesn't seem to be able to get as crisp sounding as my CAE :(

Sell it and stick with the CAE?

  • I've been thinking of flogging my crybaby classic (too warm, too big) and bonamassa wah (love the sound, just too big)

Can the xotic get those dirty throaty wah tones like the bonamassa?

im finding it hard to justify a £200+ wah pedal

    @SassafrasThe CAE is too long for my smaller board, the Xotic fits;

@ChrisCox1994 - I haven't used a bonamassa wah before, but the Xotic definitely feels throaty and and gritty to me.

I'd be gutted to have to let it go, but just don't think I can live without the crispness - I know that the general public will not notice this at all though. Maybe just need to convince myself of this....

Try a Crybaby Mini - fantastic Crybaby sound, small, true bypass.
    Red ones are better.

@TimmyO - yeah, it's been something I've looked at. I've also got the AMT mini wah which is a really good pedal, and the size doesn't really
bother me TOO much, although I do just prefer the bigger wah's a touch, which is why I was so hopeful of the Xotic

Once you use the Mini a few times you know where to centre your foot and it feels very 'normal' although at first it can feel awkward.

imho the AMT doesn't sound great by comparison
    Red ones are better.

@TimmyO ;Aye, I've been using the AMT for about a year now and it's totally fine, just not quite as comfy.

i'll maybe take a punt on a cry baby mini to see how I get on with it
