A working guitarist may have out-rigged even the best of the forum.... Mayer content!

John Mayer's new touring rig by CAE... it's all his! I can't fathom why that many switches are needed at any one time! Interesting that he's gone down the route of having everything out on boards, I can only assume it's so things are handy for tweaking...

Many by the looks of it... with a winklepicker on the end of each one.

  • That's more than a button per song surely! A button per verse, maybe?

Part of me is thinks he has had toured enough to know what works... The other half thinks posing prick. How the hell is he going to manage that?

I really wouldn't know which button to press if I was using that at a gig. I'd be certain to fuck it up....

Perhaps they all do the same thing. Good to have a backup.

He's still using the same rugs from the Where the light is DVD though, people often overlook the rugs contribution to John's sound :)

We are still talking about THE john Mayer right?? Are we sure this isn't some solo left field artist with the same name who doesn't play pop blues and rock...?

He's doing the "3 sets in one show" thing again, so I'm assuming they be part of that for the acoustic stuff and part for the trio/full band set-up.

The switchers are standard units aren't they so he's not necessarily using every one.

Still quite OTT but why not.

Why the devil not, he's a successful world famous musician, and it's only a bit crazier (actual pedal wise) than some rigs I see on here. The picture could just be testing, one of the switchers could be for his tech off-stage.

I spy two polytunes in there even. That rug tho, is an extravagance.

The 2 big boards might be the same (same no of switches so could be a back up).
Big rig for a big star who as people say, has different aspects, requirements to his set. If it's there, he probably needs it.

What's the dark green pedal next to the klon?

Some kind of Dumblish overdrive apparently! The other switchers in the lower photo aren't his, someone else's rig also being built there. 'Just' the main big switcher, the rack and the two pedalboards. I doubt any of it is anything to do with posing, i can't imagine he'd have anything there he didn't feel he needed for the setlist to come. The size of the switcher suggests he wants access to every one of those pedals at any given time, regardless of which song/bank he's on.

Absolutely boring choice of pedals, then again I guess he needs them to play all those John Mayer songs.
