The masking tape with "NO" written on it was to remind me that this is having a REAR mounted strap button only

I was wondering what that said!  I agree with Martin's choice.

Here is the second completed one belonging to John Gallop - whose original 1959 Gibson LP Junior DC we used as the template for these. This has a full gloss paint finish and looks rather shiny.

Just wondering why you set the fretboard deeper into the body than a Gibson? On a 59 Junior the fretboard ends at the body join.

It may make for a slightly stronger joint but mainly it makes the pickguard much neater and top fret access isn't hindered any.

@FelineGuitars would it be possible to get one of these made with a second P90 (soapbar rather than dogear)? Roughly how much would would one be in gloss?

Technically you can but there is a big risk of it weakening the neck joint as you are taking a LOT of wood out just where it is needed most.
Doublecut deluxes are often seen broken  - the singlecut version is much stronger.

Actually to follow on ...obviosly it can be done - as there are Gibson LP Deluxe Doublecuts (and SGs too) and the PRS heel is a workaround on this issue too. The neck pickup is often moved back from the end of the fingerboard to allow more strength or the neck is set further into the body in the case of the PRS

The DC Specials Gibson made between 58 and late 59 are notorious for their instability and neck joint breakages.

Although in late '59 onwards, the DC's neck pickup was moved 1/2" towards the bridge making the neck joint much stronger.
