    Guilty.

I'm going to put some thought into what colour to go with this one as sealer is probably in there somewhere, so Wudtone won't sit well with it.

I've decided to go with Ebony.

I know its not bright green etc. But I do miss owning a black Strat and it will be semi-opaque. SO I'll see a bit of the alder grain through the final finish.

You might have seen this before, and I'm sure @juansolo won't mind me linking to it. Shows how much all that poly can weigh:

I've now witnessed that with my own eyes with my guitar.

It weighs significantly less now and resonates a lot more than it has ever done before and as there are only three light coats of wood stain on it feels lush.

It's that piss fart on of stripping the placcy finish off that puts me off buying a used US Strat, stripping the body and neck, and doing a nitro refinish.

The phrase 'beater' should be used liberally with this Strat. When I got it it was beaten and I just beat it more and more.

Sounds great and plays very nicely.

BK in the bridge and a set of Oil City single coils in a fancy wiring harness.

    Callaham Steel block

Sperzels & a set of posh lubricating saddles.

So it takes a pounding and stays true.

Very nice  and very fast! work.

Will the grain start to show a bit more with the stain sinks into the body?  If so it's going to look better and better with use :)

This isn't the white one that you used for the Oil City Stonevibe demo is it ? I only ask because the pickup config sounds familiar but if memory serves that one was a white CS body that you stripped all the finish off of under the plate & in the neck pocket for better contact & vibration transfer

No, its a US Strat but it is loaded with that pickup and plate from the other white guitar.

The white one is currently setup with a set of BK irish tours and a Nailbomb...

I don't have much experience with fenders, but it's really disappointing to find that they're slathered in all that plasticky shit..! I always thought it was a bit of a skoosh with car paint, and done..
I'm sure almost all my guitars are similarly coated, but then I don't pay USA Fender money for my gear.. It's made me think, though, this thread has..!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Nah, Fender have been 'plastering' it on since the mid '60s.

Even before that certain 'custom colours' where poly as there was no 'nitro' version of certain colours.

That and the filler Fender used on some guitars was layered on pretty thick as well. I'm pretty sure they still use a poly coat before spraying nitro finishes over the top even now.
